Financial Freedom Options : Picking a Winner
Dec 9th, 2006 by TJ Etherton
Okay, so my wife and I have been talking about figuring out a plan to obtain Financial Freedom, and we have picked three different options to pursue. We’ve created a list of pros and cons and done some other mulling around of ideas (that we of course didn’t document). Here are options at this point:
- create content pages and generate revenue from advertising on those pages
- create an online store to sell custom “down-loadable” software
- create an online subscription based service for an app that a user might have otherwise purchased and downloaded
But now we had slept on it a little and when we got together it was obvious that Kate and I were both ready to do some eliminating - and start getting to work. So with everything we’d learned, we voted on which one we wanted to pursue. Our method was to rank the three options in order of interest to each of us and then compare the options. Whichever ranked highest between the two of us would be the winner and we wouldn’t put any more though into the other options. I wrote down my options and she wrote down hers (we were worried that one of us would influence the other just by merely sharing our choices). This is what I wanted us to work on, with the top one being the winner (for me anyway):
3) create an online subscription based service for an app that a user might have otherwise purchased and downloaded
2) create an online store to sell custom “down-loadable” software
1) create content pages and generate revenue from advertising on those pages
and Kate’s ordered list looked like this:
3) create an online subscription based service for an app that a user might have otherwise purchased and downloaded
1) create content pages and generate revenue from advertising on those pages
2) create an online store to sell custom “down-loadable” software
I must admit, I was a little stressed during this voting process. What if my first choice was her second and her first choice was my third? That would mean that my number one choice would have been the winner over hers. Thankfully that didn’t happen, and we both had the same option at the top of our lists. Phew!
So we were going to build an online subscription based application. But what was the application going to be? Our homework was to come up with some ideas and talk about them the next day. I was thoroughly overjoyed and I could already see that our goal of Financial Freedom was in sight.
